The recycling bins are clearly labelled with a sticker detailing what materials can (and can’t) go in. Please look out for any signs and labelling and make sure you use the correct bins for your recycling.

The different materials should all be put in the recycling bins loose. Please don’t put any plastic bags in the recycling bins.

The success of the recycling service depends on the co-operation of everyone to ensure that the recycling is not contaminated with rubbish or plastic bags. All other rubbish should be placed in the blue general waste bins provided. Rubbish will be collected weekly and recycling will be collected fortnightly.

Recycling in the Student Village

The double rubbish compound by the bungalow (no. 54) is separated so that the left cupboard is used to collect general waste and the right cupboard is a recycling area with 6 large blue bins for mixed recycled materials (glass, paper, cardboard, plastic bottles and cans).

A second batch of three large bins for mixed recycling are located between the two rubbish compounds on the perimeter road.

Recycling on Campus

Staff and students can now easily recycle a wider range of materials on the Talbot Campus thanks to a trial of segregated litter bins.

The pilot includes external recycling units, situated in the following areas:

  • Either side of the semi-circle area at the rear of Poole House
  • In the courtyard area near the Library Cafe
  • Near the mobile catering outlet by Christchurch House

There are also a series of internal recycling bins, which are being trialled in Weymouth House and are situated in the lift lobby on each floor.

The bins are clearly labelled for the following materials:

Paper– any waste paper and card

Mixed Recycling

Plastic bottles

Aluminium and steel cans

Glass bottles and jars

General Waste – all other waste should be put in this bin, including food waste and food packaging, plastic cups, plastic films etc

Bournemouth University already recycles more than 35% of campus generated waste, but has a target to recycle 45% by 2012.
