What is it?

We are launching the first ever SUBU/BU/Reslife Sustainability Challenge!  Do you have a fantastic sustainable idea that could be incorporated into every day life on campus? Then this is for you!

The Sustainability Challenge is:

• A chance to inspire and help Bournemouth University become more environmentally sustainable

• A chance to work across disciplines with students from other faculties or departments, and create an interdisciplinary and innovative idea

• An opportunity to win £500

• An experience that will give you new skills, new contacts and impress future employers

You can attend the launch events being held on Monday 10th Feb, 3-4pm, EB203 and Thursday 13th Feb, 3-4, K101. The Final is on the afternoon of 18th March at the Student Centre where teams will present their idea in front of the judges.

The Sustainability Challenge is an opportunity for entrepreneurs to come together and create an idea to make the university campuses more sustainable. For students considering taking part in this competition it is also: • A chance to inspire and help Bournemouth University become more environmentally sustainable • A chance to work across disciplines with students from other faculties or departments, and create an interdisciplinary and innovative idea • An opportunity to win £500 • An experience that will give you new skills, new contacts and impress future employers

We encourage teams to have between 3 to 6 members.

Any BU student is eligible to be part of a team with members from anywhere across BU. You can join up with peers on your programme, in your accommodation or anywhere else!

If you want to sign up as an individual, please do! We will be hosting launch events on both campuses to run through the ‘rules’ and to be a networking session for you to meet other keen individuals and create a team.

Go to https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/schallenge and fill in the online form. We’ll also be hosting sign-up stalls in halls and the Student Centre from Monday 3rd February, for you or your team to sign-up and ask any questions you may have before the launch event. The deadline to sign up will be Friday 14th February, and a member of every team (if not all) must attend one of the launch events.

SUBU and BU Sustainability Teams will be hosting drop-in sessions on various dates throughout February for any questions you may have. We encourage you to find a mentor if you feel it would benefit, as it is a great research and networking opportunity. We can help you with this, or we’ll certainly try!

This is BU’s very first Sustainability Challenge so you have free reign on what your idea is! It can be as small or as large as you like, as long as it fulfils the scoring criteria and can improve BU’s sustainability on campus. What’s an issue that you are passionate about?

The Challenge is a platform for students to come together and create an idea. There is neither an expectancy that you must fulfil the idea or that the university will accept it and/or fund its implementation although all ideas will be considered and, of course, you may be able to implement some without that.

We can’t give that away!

Yes! Taking part in the SUBU Sustainability Challenge is recognised as part of the Skilled Practioner Badge on the Global Talent Programme and allows you to gain credit towards your Global Talent Award. Find out more and join here: www.bournemouth.ac.uk/student/global-talent
