WHERE CAN I FIND OUT MORE INFORMATION?
If you want to find out more about what it’s like to be a Full-Time Officer, you can contact one of our current Full-Time Officers, or a member of staff. All the contact details are here: http://www.subu.org.uk/staff
For more info about the whole election process, please speak to a member of the Democracy team by emailing email@example.com.
Alternately, if you find yourself on campus with a bit of free time, pop into SUBU at Talbot Campus and talk to someone at SUBU reception who will signpost you to the best person to speak to on that day. You can also pop into Studland House Office at Lansdowne Campus and see if there is a member of staff or an officer for you to talk to.
DO I NEED TO HAVE BEEN INVOLVED WITH THE STUDENTS’ UNION?
No, although it is an advantage to have some experience of the day-to-day running of the organisation you will be working in. However there are many different ways to gain experience that will help you in these roles so don’t discredit experience you have, whatever it may be in. Remember too that the Students’ Union covers many aspects of the student experience, from clubs and societies, RAG and volunteering to nights out at the Old Fire Station and facilities such as Dylan’s, the Loft and the Student Shop.
CAN I RUN FOR MORE THAN ONE POSITION?
No, you only have a week to campaign on why you would be the best person for the position you are going for and gather as many votes as possible. It’s not possible to run an effective campaign covering more than one of these roles as they each have such different remits. If you’re having difficulty choosing the one that is the best suit for you, come and talk to us in SUBU.
IS THIS A PAID ROLE?
Yes, £20,989 to be exact. With this you are entitled to 24 days holiday a year plus some bank holidays.
WHEN WOULD I BE EXPECTED TO START IN THE POSITION IF ELECTED?
Handover starts in June 2018 for a July start, staying in the position until June 2019 to handover to the next Full-Time Officer team.
DO I PAY COUNCIL TAX AS A FULL TIME OFFICER?
Yes, you are no longer in full-time education. If you live in a household where you are the only non-student, you are the only one that would need to pay.
According to the government’s guidelines, you get 25% off your Council Tax bill if you are the only one in a household that counts as a Council-Tax paying adult or you live on your own.
You can find more information here: www.gov.uk/council-tax/who-has-to-pay
