Cheerleading (BU Falcons)

Why Join Us?

1) Join the Falcon family and make friends for life in a supportive team environment.

2) Get involved in community projects, charities and local events

3) We have teams for all abilities, whether you are a complete beginner or a seasoned pro!

What do we do?

The BU Falcons are nationally ranked as one of the top University Cheerleading programs in the country after ending last season with a National & Grand Championship Title. We have 5 different teams and over 80 athletes meaning there is something for everyone! We are recognised as a SUBU 5* star society, making us one of the best clubs/societies to be part of. You don't need to have any experience to tryout, just a great attitude and willingness to learn!

We are proud to be part of the fastest growing sport in the UK, offering teams that are both exciting and challenging for all levels of experience. Our student coaching programme also provides an opportunity for those with previous experience to be guided into coaching roles throughout their time at University. Links to the local Allstar programme, Bournemouth Elite, provides support to our student coaches as well as access to training facilities and opportunities for members to cross over to an Allstar team.

Outside of training, there is plenty to get involved in to enhance your student experience! Community outreach, volunteering, fundraising, pizza parties, movie nights, and weekly Wednesday night socials are just some of the activities you can look forward to with Falcons. We provide a supportive team environment to foster incredible friendships and a buddy system between new members and our returners to look out for freshers while they settle into the team and university life. We pride ourselves on our inclusivity; welcoming members from both BU and AUB.

Our teams for the 20/21 season:

Level 3 Coed Cheer

Level 2 NT Cheer

Varsity Cheer (Non-Competitive)

Pom

Hip Hop

Competitive teams will travel to 2 National competitions this year. Membership fees are inclusive of these costs and will be organised by the team.

Our Varsity Team will work towards our Annual Showcase (March) & Varsity Day 2021.

How can you get involved?

We run taster sessions at the start of each academic year where we welcome everyone to come and give Cheerleading, Pom & Hip Hop a go! These will be in booked slots at various venues across Monday 28th & Tuesday 29th September 2020. We encourage anyone planning on trying out to also come to a taster session as they are a great chance to meet the team and learn the tryout material. Tryouts will be held on Monday 5th & Tuesday 6th October 2020- full details to be confirmed. All events will be in line with SportCheerEngland & Government Covid-19 Guidance.

To gain membership to the BU Falcons you must go through our tryout process. Unfortunately, we are not in a position to take social members and we cannot accept new members after the October deadline. Follow us on Instagram (@bufalcons) and join our 20/21 Tryout Page for the most up to date information!

When and Where?

We currently train across 3 venues, the Student Hall (Talbot Campus), Sir David English Sports Centre (Charminster), and Oak Academy (Bournemouth Elite). Our competitive Cheer teams train on a full 9-panel sprung floor and have access to various gymnastic equipment. We also organize visits to local gymnastic facilities and open gyms where athletes are able to develop their skills further.
