What are Big Ideas?

Big Ideas is a platform for ideas that have come from BU students; they’re ideas that should achieve change and impact across SUBU, BU and Beyond. These Ideas should focus on big issues, problems or clear objectives that you would like addressed by SUBU and our Full-Time Officers to improve the student experience.

These Ideas have to be formed in consultation with other students.  They need to be well-evidenced, showing that the proposed Idea is relevant, impactful and a priority for the current student body. We ask that when considering the outcomes of your idea and what you wish for SUBU to work on, that they remain achievable in a two year period and in line with SUBU's charitable objectives and strategy.

Big Ideas are reviewed at SUBU's democratic meetings such as SUBU Summit or Student Members Meeting and if approved will become SUBU Action for the following two years. If your idea is smaller and/or impacts fewer students or is something easily achieved then we encourage you to submit this via SUBU's Shout Out feedback tool, which you can access here [INSERT LINK]

Submitting your Idea

Before submitting your Big Idea, we encourage you to do some research on the matter and consider the facts or information that will support your Big Idea and suggested actions.  It is important to speak to other students when drafting your Idea to ensure that what you submit is reflective of general student views and priorities. Make sure you note their feedback down and include it in your Big Idea submission. It is also important to have a clear idea of what you want to achieve and what the outcomes of your Big Idea would be before starting this process.

Deadlines

Big Ideas are reviewed before democratic meetings such as SUBU Summit and Student Members meeting to ensure they are achievable, well-evidenced and actionable. If your Idea proceeds to one of these meetings then you will be invited to attend and speak on your Idea.

Below are the meeting dates and deadlines for Idea submission.
