Antoine Semenyo bids farewell to Cherries with last minute winner against Spurs

AFC Bournemouth won their first game since October as they beat Tottenham 3-2 on Wednesday night.

A brilliant header from Evanilson and a tap-in from Junior Kroupi had the home side leading after conceding very early to a Mathys Tel goal.

Joao Palhinha then levelled the game with a spectacular overhead kick.

In stoppage time, Antoine Semenyo curled in the match winner with a fantastic curling effort.

Andoni Iraola was hampered by Justin Kluivert’s knee injury with his team selection.

David Brooks also made way to make room for Eli Junior Kroupi and Lewis Cook.

The deadlock was broken very early in the fifth minute. Mathys Tel was found by an acute Xavi Simons backheel which released Tel down the left-hand side.

Tel then cut in onto his right foot and passed the ball into the far bottom corner finishing off a slick counter attack.

The first Cherries chance came soon enough with Marcus Tavernier firing just wide of the post with a long range strike.

The Cherries had their equaliser just after the 20th minute. A brilliant curling cross from Tavernier found Evanilson who leaped and flicked it on into the far corner.

Iraola’s side dominated the game after that goal and soon had their second of the game.

Once again, Tavernier swinged in a cross and Semenyo missed his effort. It fortunately found Marcos Senesi at the back post who laid it off to Junior Kroupi who smashed it into the net

The second half provided very little entertainment in comparison to the first half.

Richalison came close to netting a Spurs equaliser as his header hit the post from a corner.

After that chance, Semenyo raced down the left hand side and put a very inviting ball into the box. It fell to Ünal who fired wide.

The referee awarded a penalty to Tottenham after Micky Van De Ven went down in the box. After a lengthy run, the Dutch defender appeared to throw himself down to the ground .

VAR overturned the decision after a lengthy look.

Minutes later, Tottenham had their equaliser. Joao Palhinha with an acrobatic overhead kick which left Djorde Petrovic stranded. A spectacular effort to bring the visitor’s level.

In the nine minutes of stoppage time, Semenyo had the game-winning chance. The Ghanaian span his man and shot on the turn but his effort was blocked.

A minute later, Antoine Semenyo did win the game for Bournemouth. Semenyo picked up the ball and struck an outstanding effort which curled away into the far bottom right corner.

The Vitality Stadium erupted for what was a poetical ending for Antoine Semenyo as he had scored his final Cherries goal. A game winning goal.

The game ended 3-2 to the Cherries , ending their winless run. They travel to Newcastle on Saturday to begin their FA Cup campaign.
