AFC Bournemouth hosted Leeds United at Vitality Stadium, with a last gasp Sean Longstaff strike denting the Cherries' European dreams.
Just the one change from Iraola’s side’s win away at Newcastle, with David Brooks replacing Rayan. Daniel Farke’s Leeds were unchanged from their 3-0 win at home to Wolves. It was the home side who started better, with David Brooks nearly getting on the end of an Alex Scott pass.
A pretty cagey opening 25 minutes got slightly more entertaining when Eli Junior Kroupi was shown the games first yellow card, for a challenge on Leeds skipper Ethan Ampadu.
The first shot on target came just after the half hour mark, Adrian Truffert’s shot was comfortable for Karl Darlow.
Leeds responded with an effort on target of their own, smooth footwork from Brenden Aaronson crafted a shot which was comfortably saved by Petrovic.
Perhaps the most promising chance for the away side was made after some good work from left back Gabriel Gudmundsson. Leeds had a free kick in a dangerous area, however AO Tanaka was unable to find one of his teammates.
The Cherries' best chance came just before the break, after Ryan Christie’s effort was saved well by Darlow.n.
When the second half resumed, AFC Bournemouth once again started well, a ball flashed across the Leeds box was almost met by Brooks.
The Cherries started to mount some pressure early on, a Ryan Christie shot was well blocked by Struijk.
Bournemouth were causing more problems for the Leeds backline, Taverneir’s flashed cross was almost turned into Gudmundssons own net.
And just a minute later, it was the Cherries who took a deserved lead after a Senesi through ball found Kroupi, who lofted his effort over Darlow.
Leeds went close to an immediate response, after a loose touch from James Hill sent inform Noah Okafor through on goal.
Okafor’s dinked effort just kissed the left hand post, a let off for Bournemouth.
Leeds levelled just 8 minutes later and after a scramble in the box, the ball found substitute Wilfried Gnonto, whos strike cannoned off Hill and into the net.
The Cherries were mounting rapid pressure, and were having a flurry of good chances, the best coming from Evanilson nearly tapping home, but he was stopped by Struijk’s goalline clearance.
Bournemouth’s attacking pressure was rewarded after substitute Rayan scored late on to put the Cherries in a commanding position, 2-1 to the good.
Just as the six minutes of additional time were indicated, Evanilson thought he’d found Bournemouth’s third, however VAR deemed the striker to be in an offside position.
To snatch a point, Leeds levelled in the most dramatic way possible. Sean Longstaff had an effort on the volley which flew past Petrovic and into the Bournemouth net after the Cherries failed to clear a long throw in.
The result pushes the Cherries ahead of Chelsea into 7th place, however Iraola and his side miss the chance to have gone sixth in the league.
