Young Cherries see record cup run end in nine goal thriller

Andoni Iraola was in attendance as the AFC Bournemouth’ U21’s lost 5-4 to West Brom in the Premier League Cup quarter final.

 

Koby Mottoh put the Cherries ahead in the eighth minute of the game with a composed finish into the bottom left-hand corner.

 

Michael Dacosta Gonzalez added a second to the tally with a fine low driven strike from 25 yards out.

 

Shortly after, a Kai Crampton own goal had the Baggies level with the Cherries goalkeeper seeing his effort to palm the ball away end up in the back of the net.

 

Baggies captain Eseosa Sule tied the game before half-time with a low driven effort past Crampton inside the penalty area.

 

Sule had his second soon after the second half whistle, pouncing on a loose ball to tap in.

 

Sule completed his hattrick just shy of the 55th minute with a low driven effort into the bottom right corner.

 

Remy Rees-Dottin notched one back for the Cherries with an acute finish into the top-left corner.

 

Noah Dupont extend the visitors’ lead back to two goals after heading home from a corner in the 80th minute.

 

Nyarko tucked away his first goal of the evening in added time of the second half, halving the deficit

 

The u’21s were looking at a semi-final spot in the Premier League cup as they host West Brom at an empty Vitality Stadium.

 

The Cherries took the lead early after Eugene Narko found Koby Mottoh in the penalty area.

 

Mottoh took a great touch past his defender and cut his shot back across goal, placing it in the bottom left corner.

 

Just over the twenty-minute mark, Dacosta Gonzalez made it 2-0. He picked up a loose ball and from 25 yards out, he struck a low driven effort into the bottom right corner.

 

West Brom had a goal back straight after through a Crampton own goal. A free-kick is sent into the box with West Brom’s George Shaw seeing his headed effort hit the post.

 

Cherries keeper Crampton sees the deflected ball late and, in an attempt to palm the ball away, he turned it into his own net.

 

The Cherries came close to a third through Ben Gannon-Doak. Great strength shown by Mottoh was followed by a tempting through ball for Gannon-Doak to run onto.

 

The Scot cut inside and curled a lovely effort past the keeper, but his effort hit the post.

 

Two minutes before half time, the Baggies had their equaliser. Captain Eseosa Sule was found clean through on goal and nicely slotted his shot home.

 

Two minutes into the second half, Sule had his second. A corner sent in was wildly missed by Crampton. The ball fell to Sule who had an easy job of tapping it in.

 

On the 55th minute, Sule completed his hat trick and had the Baggies’ fourth of the evening.

 

He took control of the ball before opening up and striking a low driven effort into the bottom right corner, which Crampton couldn’t keep out.

 

Shy of the 70-minute mark, Rees-Dottin pulled a goal back for Alan Connell’s side.

 

A neat pass from substitute Ethan Sills found Rees-Dottin in the penalty area, who placed his effort nicely into the top left corner.

 

After making a fine save, Crampton misjudged the resulting corner kick with the ball flying through his hands.

 

Noah Dupont took advantage and headed it in to extend the Baggies lead back to two goals.

 

Nyarko had the Cherries’ fourth late on in stoppage time. The striker latched onto the ball from an inswinging corner, nodding it past the Baggies keeper

 

The young Cherries have a quick turnaround before Monday, as they welcome fans to Vitality Stadium when they host Crewe Alexandra.
