Bournemouth’s Ballroom and Latin Dance Society (BU BLDS) has new National Champions.

After travelling to Blackpool, the home of Ballroom and Latin for their latest competition, Hannah Ramsey and Maddi Drake were crowned National Champions after competing in the Same-Sex category.

The 60th Inter Varsity Dance Competition took place in Blackpool’s Winter Gardens and saw more than 50 universities attending from across the country.

Hundreds of couples competed across seven different dance categories in hope of winning a Nationals title.

The BU BLDS took part in three of these categories including Beginners, Same Sex, and Ex Student - With the beginner category having one of the highest number of entrances ever, with a total of 143 couples.

The six Bournemouth duos participated in two to four dances each, including the Waltz, Quickstep, Chacha, and Jive in the competition which took place across two floors (The Spanish Hall and the Empress Ballroom).

After a long day of dancing and cheering each other on, the beginner couples also made it through multiple rounds and the Ex-Students were just shy of making through more rounds.

Other members of the society that competed as Same Sex couples also made it through multiple rounds as well.

Next week, the BLDS Society will be competing in Bristol and you can keep up with their progress via their Instagram page: https://www.instagram.com/bu_blds/?hl=en-gb
