“The feeling you get when on stage is very hard to explain,” said rock and roll legend Marty Wilde ahead of his return to Dorset later this week.

Marty, 86, will take to the stage with his band The Wildcats at the Tivoli Theatre in Wimborne this Thursday, December 4.

It’s far from Marty's first time in Wimborne, having performed at the venue for almost ten years.

“It’s a lovely theatre,” Marty told Nerve Online.

“It’s just a fantastic place to go to.”

Marty is one of the UK’s first ever rock and roll stars and scored chart hits throughout the 1950s and 60s with songs including A Teenager in Love, Sea of Love and Donna.

At the age of 86, he continues to tour, and has no plans to stop.

“There’s a phenomenal energy about live music,” he said.

“If you haven’t performed on stage, you wouldn’t know.

“It’s been a very long and rewarding career.

“I’m a very lucky man.”

Marty’s Wimborne concert will be with a full backing band, but earlier in the year, he hit the road with his one-man-show, which allowed him to talk about his life experiences - including living through the Second World War.

With a musical career of almost 70 years, Marty has seen changes in the charts across the decades.

Who are his favourite 21st century artists, though?

“I love Beyoncé," Marty said.

"I think she is one of the most incredible talents.

“My tastes are very eclectic. I always see something in most artists and can enjoy their music.

“One of the biggest gifts I ever had was being able to enjoy music from all sorts of styles.”

Going back to his rock and roll roots, Marty will release a new album next year.

The main aim when recording was to avoid the use of AI and create music from the ‘heart and soul.’

“I’m beginning to realise that I much prefer things to be natural,” Marty said.

“You can play with a click track and then the drummer plays to that so the tempos are dead on time.

“That’s not what rhythm is all about.

“AI music is soulless stuff. You can't replace a human.”

Christmas Day is only weeks away and in 2020, Marty released a Christmas single.

He said although he isn't religious, he is always fond of a Christmas carol.

"I have a real soft spot for them," he added.

"The great thing about Christmas is people giving presents and showing love to others."
