Jah Wobble, the famed bass player who has worked with Public Image Ltd, Massive Attack and Bjork, will perform in Dorset as part of his latest tour.

Taking to the stage with the Invaders of the Heart, Jah Wobble, whose real name is John Wardle, will perform in Wimborne tonight (Thursday) and Lyme Regis on Saturday, May 30.

Speaking to Nerve Online ahead of the shows, John had positive things to say about Wimborne’s Tivoli Theatre, where he has played before.

“It’s a nice independent theatre,” he said.

“I wish there were more places like that.

“I’ve got a good friend who lives near it and always comes.”

With influences including The Wailers’ Aston ‘Family Man’ Barrett and Robbie Shakespeare from Sly & Robbie, John has worked in genres from punk, all the way to reggae.

His new tour will celebrate his latest album with former Siouxsie and the Banshees guitarist Jon Klein, someone he only met in 2017.

“Jon is known as a post-punk guy but our paths never crossed back then. We know a lot of the same people.”

Describing Jon as the ‘only man who can pull of the guitar parts’ for a reimagined version of PIL’s Metal Box album, the duo have collaborated on many records, including a cover of The Rolling Stones.

Their latest album, Automated Paradise, is out now and was recorded ‘quickly’ with lots of different drummers from around the world, including John’s son.

Although he has collaborated with everyone from Brian Eno to Zi Lan Liao, a Chinese guzheng player and harpist, John was a founding member of Public Image Ltd, the band formed by former Sex Pistols singer John Lydon.

“The Pistols split up and John [Lydon] wanted to do something new with mates,” John said.

“I think they were surprised how well I took to the bass.

“For a novice bass player I was very very fortunate.”

Before forming the band together, John and John’s friendship started at their equivalent of Sixth Form.

We were interested to know what the man with the voice behind Anarchy In The UK was really like?

“He was quite charismatic, a real oddball kind of guy,” John said.

“He said ‘Oh you’re not Tottenham are you?’ and I said ‘Oh no you’re not an Arsenal fan,’ but we’ve become good mates.”

Jah Wobble and the Invaders of the Heart will perform at the Tivoli Theatre in Wimborne tonight (Thursday) and the Marine Theatre in Lyme Regis on Saturday, May 30.
