Are you an international student joining us in September? Want a friendly face to help you settle in, talk to you about their experience at BU and give you some useful hints and tips? You can now sign up to SUBU’s International Buddy Scheme - a support service dedicated to helping new International students settle into life at BU and in Bournemouth.

We know how daunting coming to University can be, especially when it means moving to a whole new country. We want to support you and make sure your experience at BU is the best it can be from the very first moment and that’s why we created the International Buddy Scheme.

By signing up to the scheme, international students will be matched with a current student with similar interests and hobbies, who can share their tips and hints and tell you more about university life in Bournemouth.

New students will also learn more about the available support around housing, finance, health and welfare, and extra-curricular activities on offer at SUBU.

As part of the scheme, we are also looking for buddy volunteers who would like to support a fellow student when they arrive in Bournemouth.

You don’t have to be an International student to be a buddy volunteer – any current BU student who will be on campus can help out.

Being a buddy is an enriching opportunity that will help you develop your communication skills and a great addition to your CV.

Chike Dike, SU President, said: “We are excited to bring the International Buddy Scheme back after a very successful first year where we were able to help many international students have a smoother transition into life in the UK and at BU.

“We would love to support more students this year and hope you will join us in October.”

Want to join the scheme? Submit your applications by 11:59pm on Sunday, 1st October at subu.org.uk/buddyscheme.

The scheme works on a first come first serve basis, so make sure to apply now to find, or be, a Buddy.
