BU students will soon have the opportunity to vote in a referendum on whether SUBU should remain affiliated with National Union of Students (UK) (NUS UK).

The referendum, which has been called following a decision of the SUBU Trustee Board and BU students will be asked to participate in the important democratic process by submitting motions, campaigning, and voting,

“Should SUBU disaffiliate from NUS UK?”

Ahead of voting, students will have the opportunity to get involved in the democratic process through the submission of motions and campaign activity.

From 11 – 15 May, students can submit motions or statements that either support disaffiliation from NUS UK or support continued affiliation with NUS UK. This period is intended to ensure students are able to present different viewpoints ahead of voting.

Students interested in submitting a motion, registering a campaign group or becoming involved in campaigning should click the link on the referendum webpage.

Voting will open on 19 May and close on 28 May. Further details on voting arrangements, campaign regulations and referendum guidance can be found on the referendum webpage.

SUBU is committed to ensuring the referendum is conducted fairly and transparently. Students are encouraged to take part, engage with the debate, and make their voices heard.
