Utilise group transport 

• Such as hiring a coach through DrivenConnect, or using public transport such as trains or buses to reduce environmental impact

Use an Amazon-alternative  

• Order items for your society from an alternative supplier, or buy them at local businesses or charity shops 

Fundraise for a chosen charity  

• Host a fundraising event or stall for a chosen charity with your society using our SumUp card readers, and donate your funds

Independently organise a society volunteering event  

• This could be hosting a local litter pick, or volunteering with a local charity or community project 

Volunteer at a SUBU community project or event  

• This could include the SUBU Community Garden, SUBU Supper Club, Beach Cleans and Litter Picks. Contact subuvolunteering@bournemouth.ac.uk for upcoming opportunities! 

Log volunteering hours on the volunteering Hub 

• This can include hours you have spent volunteering for the society e.g. committee admin tasks, sending emails, running social events, etc., as well as other volunteering activities 

Support local small businesses  

• This can include hosting events there, such as coffee and cake social at an independent cafe or dinner at a non-chain restaurant  

Think about your clubs' future 

• Develop a handover document for the next committee throughout the year to pass along at the end of the year 

Participate in SUBU democratic meetings  

• Attend a SUBU Summit and/or Student Members Meeting 

Get your members voting   

• Achieve a 25% voter turnout of your members during SUBU Officer Elections 

Build transferable skills  

• Attend a SUBU Skills Development programme event 

Promote the student voice  

• Have your members fill out a Shout Out form (Shout Out remains anonymous – we don’t see your responses, just what clubs have done it!) 

Run a campaign or awareness event with your society  

• For example, Wildlife Conservation runs raising awareness on local wildlife, or WiSTEM promoting women in science week. Utilising the Student Action Hub 

Run an event or stall as part of a SUBU/National History Month or Awareness Week/Day, or collaborate with a Liberation Network 

• For example, organise an event related to a liberation network community or invite a guest speaker to talk on lived experiences in their community 

Gain member feedback 

• Hold a mid-year meeting with members to discuss club activity or create a club feedback form 

Strive for organised and collaborative leadership  

• Club/society has held at least 3 formal committee meetings, attended by at least 50% of the elected committee 

Access training to improve member experience  

• Complete one of the SUBU Additional Training sessions (in person or on TalentLMS) 

Keep an active community  

• Host an event at least once a month during term time 

Host a sober social 

• Ensure a social (not just a regular event) is free of alcohol  

Promote wellbeing 

• Engage with a SUBU wellbeing campaign, or run your own wellbeing orientated event 

Assess your activity 

• Write a trip/event evaluation form and send this to SUBU  

Aim to widen membership  

• Submit a Widening Access Policy 

Continue efforts to increase accessibility  

• E.g. add alt text and captions to your videos, add Access Statements to your event listings and advertising, or purchase accessible equipment 

Ask pronouns 

• Committee to ensure that pronoun badges are made readily available to their members during regular activity for those who wish to wear them 

Host a collaborative Event 

• Host an event in tandem with one or more other SUBU society 

Host an event in Lansdowne 

• This includes TOFS, BGB, and other buildings in the area 

Host a society activity-relevant trip 

• A trip is outside of the main Bournemouth area – for example a visit to Russell Coates or Poole Museum would be considered a local event, but a visit to the Dinosaur Museum in Dorchester is a trip 

Host Give it a Go taster events 

• Organise a 'Give It A Go' in the Freshers or Refreshers periods to attract new members 

Promote your society 

• Have a stand at Freshers Fair  

Utilise social media regularly 

• Post 10x times on social media in a year (this could be about recruitment, upcoming events/activities, socials, fundraising, volunteering, sessions, campaigns etc.) 

Create high-quality content  

• Have a SUBU content creator come along to film a club event – contact ldoucy@bournemouth.ac.uk to arrange  

Host an event or social at a SUBU venue or outlet 

• This includes Dylans, Ground Up Cafe, or The Old Fire Station
