• Sorting through our donated stock and selecting items for sale

• Working with the shop manager to understand what sells well

The SUBU Community Garden is a student-led green space designed to promote wellbeing, sustainability, and social connection. As a Community Garden Volunteer, you’ll help maintain the garden, support seasonal events like mindfulness mornings, and encourage student engagement through nature-based activities. Volunteers will work alongside SUBU staff and other students and members of the community to create a welcoming environment. No gardening experience is needed—just enthusiasm and a willingness to get involved. You’ll gain valuable skills in teamwork, event planning, and sustainability, while contributing to a meaningful project that enhances student life.

As a Volunteer Lead you will work together with other 2-3 leads, making a small team, you will be: Welcoming and supporting volunteers. Helping deliver planned garden sessions. Ensuring a safe and inclusive environment. Supporting maintenance of growing areas and equipment. Encouraging participation and community involvement. Raising concerns and requests with SUBU Advice member of staff. Contributing ideas for future projects and events Volunteer Leads are not expected to manage the garden alone. The role is collaborative, and support is available from SUBU throughout the year.

Volunteer with Adults with Learning Disabilities

Could you spare a few hours to help someone enjoy new experiences, build confidence, and feel connected to their community?

We're looking for friendly volunteers to support adults with learning disabilities to enjoy activities at our Bradbury Centre in Southbourne.

You don't need any special qualifications. If you're kind, patient, and enjoy spending time with people, we'd love to hear from you.

As a volunteer, you could:

•  Enjoy activities alongside people
•  Encourage confidence and independence
•  Help people try new things and reach personal goals

About Us

We are a growing charity dedicated to helping women aged 18+ build confidence, resilience, and wellbeing. Through free support sessions, workshops, and community programmes, we provide a safe and encouraging space for women to overcome challenges, reconnect with their strengths, and move forward with greater self-belief.

Many of the women we support are facing life transitions, isolation, low confidence, stress, or difficult circumstances. Our programmes help them develop practical tools, supportive connections, and the resilience needed to thrive.

By volunteering with us, you'll be helping create materials that raise awareness, inspire hope, and enable more women to access life-changing support within their community. Your creativity can have a direct and meaningful impact on the lives of women who need it most.

The SUBU Community Kitchen designed to support wellbeing, reduce food waste, no judgemental access to food support. As a Community Kitchen Volunteer, you’ll help organise surplus food, assist with pantry organisation, maintain the kitchen and support events that bring students together around food and conversation.

Volunteers play a key role in creating a welcoming, inclusive environment where students can access nutritious meals and connect with others. You’ll work alongside SUBU staff and fellow volunteers to run themed Supper Clubs, food-sharing events, and promotion activities. The kitchen also supplies fresh produce from the SUBU Community Garden, promoting sustainability and healthy living.

This opportunity is ideal for students who want to make a tangible impact on campus, develop practical skills, and contribute to a supportive community. No prior experience is needed—just a willingness to get involved and work as part of a team.

Volunteers will gain experience in food handling, event support, and community engagement, and will be invited to participate in seasonal campaigns and feedback sessions. Your contribution helps reduce food insecurity, build student confidence, and promote positive mental health.
