Welcome to BU Benchball!
About us!
We started Benchball Society because we feel there is a huge number of people who love playing sports and being active, but either lack the money, ability or confidence to try out for a TeamBU team. We wanted to create a place where people feel comfortable to turn up, play some fun games of benchball & meet new people! Of course with any sport there's always going to be a competitive element, but we really do want people to just turn up and have a laugh in a fun and inclusive group! And what better sport to choose but everyone's favourite primary school game, right?
What we do!
Weekly Sessions - We host weekly Benchball sessions which involve a mix of mini tournaments, large full-hall games, dodgeball & other mini games!
Socials - Throughout the year, we host a variety of Benchball socials, offering something for everyone. Our main weekly social alternates between a themed club night and other exciting events such as movie nights, axe throwing, laser tag, and more! With a mix of sober socials, clubbing and casual drinking, they will be a socials for everyone
Annual Benchball Varsity - Whilst we are a non-competitive society and there are not enough benchball societies nationally to run a league throughout the academic year, we do have the opportunity to take part in the Annual Benchball Varsity, where we take on Birmingham, Exeter, Sheffield, Chichester & Lancaster University's for the title of national champions. In 2027, Varsity will be in Exeter, organising a massive weekend trip for the Varsity team to stay over night to compete and have a massive varsity social.
When, where & how much?
How much does it cost? - For just £40 a year, you'll get access to over 50 hours of Benchball, and for those of you who can’t always commit every Sunday, we offer 1 off sessions for just £3.
Can I get a free taster? - Absolutely! Rather than running just one taster session at the start of the year that people are forced to attend if they wish to try for free, anyone who turns up will always get their first session for free before committing to buying their memberships.
When and where do we play? - Sessions take place at Slades Park Pavilion sports hall, every Sunday 2-4pm!
