On the Trip Registration form, we ask for a EHIC/GHIC card number. When giving us the details on the form, please ask your members for the ID number of the card.
An EHIC is a European Health Insurance Card. They are issued upon application to residents of EEA scheme countries, Switzerland and the United Kingdom to give the holder access to free or reduced health care services in any EEA member state.
This has been replaced with the GHIC (Global Health Insurance Card). If you still have a valid EHIC, there is no need to replace it until it expires.
Cards can take two working weeks to arrive, so it is important when organising Interntional Trips to one of the participating countries, that you encourage your members to apply for a card with enough time for it to be delivered before your departure. While it is not mandatory, some form of travel insurance (whether that is cover from an EHIC/GHIC or private holiday and travel insurance) is really important in case of accidents and emergencies while you are travelling with your society.
Without insurance, your members may face a large bill at the end of their doctors/hospital visit!
