Scott Parker revealed that we was “amazed” that Lerma received a red card in AFC Bournemouth’s 3-1 Victory Over Birmingham City tonight and admitted the club "will appeal" the sending off.

Following a shock defeat in the FA cup to National League side Borehamwood, The Cherries bounced back to winning ways to beat Birmingham City 3-1 at Vitality Stadium.

However, the 67th minute saw Bournemouth’s Jefferson Lerma given a straight red after his challenge on Onel Hernandez warranted a straight red according to referee James Linington

The Bournemouth manager was quick to defend his midfielder, admitting it was a “big turning point” in the game.

He said: “I was amazed he was sent off for the tackle. At first I thought something had happened, because there was a big melee.

"I thought the fight was why he’s (the ref) gave that decision, but the fourth official told me he’d given the red for foul play."

Scott Parker joked about his player, and his style of play, adding: “It’s Jefferson Lerma, that’s just the way he plays.

"In comparison to some other tackles that they did (Birmingham), I just didn’t see it as a real reckless challenge.

"This is a contact sport and at times, that is just what happens. Everyone was shocked."

Parker did admit he will need to "reflect" on the incident and will make a decision on whether to appeal in the morning.
