Both teams struggled in front of goal as Bournemouth vs Chelsea finished goalless at the Vitality Stadium.

Sanchez and Neto both provided good displays in goal as both teams created big chances but failed to hit the back of the net. The Blues had a goal disallowed when Levi Colwill scored from an offside position after Raheem Sterling's free-kick hit the upright, but Bournemouth has a fantastic chance saved by Robert Sanchez after being played through by Christie.

The result continues both sides' poor form at the start of the season, with the Cherries still waiting for their first win under new boss Andoni Iraola.

The Spaniard made three changes to the side that drew away at Brentford with Senesi, Semenyo and Kluivert making way for Tavernier, Kelly and Ouattara, with the Burkina Faso international making his first start of the season.

Chelsea changed two players from the team that lost 1-0 to Nottingham Forest before the international break. Mykhailo Mudryk and Lesley Ugochuckwu replaced Ben Chilwell and Moises Caicedo, with the £115 million signing not in Mauricio Pochettino’s squad for this game.

Both teams came into this game in poor form, with Chelsea sitting in 14th and Bournemouth in 16th before kick-off. The visitors had only picked up one win so far this season and their last away win came at the Vitality Stadium at the end of last season.

But it was the Blues who started by far the better, and Gallagher could’ve put away a chance three minutes in when Mudryk burst past Lloyd Kelly on the left side of the penalty area and crossed it, but the Chelsea captain couldn’t apply the finish.

Sterling received the first yellow card four minutes into the game after taking down Solanke and stopping a promising attack for the Cherries.

Chelsea came close in the 13th minute after some good link-up play between Mudryk and Jackson, and the striker’s shot from the edge of the box hit the foot of the post and went wide.

Bournemouth had their first big chance after a free-kick was taken to Christie on the right side of the box, the midfielder switched it to an onrushing Ouattara who forced a brilliant save out of Robert Sanchez.

The Cherries grew into the first half and started getting shots away, some more dangerous than others however as at the half hour mark Ouattara cut inside from the left and unleased a shot from the edge of the box that went out of play for a throw-in.

Neto produced a great save in the 33rd minute to deny Conor Gallagher as the ball fell to the Englishman on the penalty spot, he directed his shot down the middle of the goal and forced a wonderful reflex save out of the Brazilian.

Mudryk vs Aarons proved to be the key battle in the first half, with the right-back bursing down the flank and mostly getting the better of the Ukraine international. Mudryk was booked in the 41st minute for a late challenge on the cherries defender.

The chances were few and far between at the halfway point. Chelsea had started the better of the two sides with Gallagher and Sterling having early chances that they were unable to convert. Bournemouth grew into the game and had the biggest chance through Dango Ouattara. Neither team looked eager to score at the break, with both sides trying to keep the ball in what could be described as a 45-minute rondo.

Chelsea had a free kick on the left side just outside the box two minutes into the second half. Raheem Sterling hit the upright and the ball fell to Levi Colwill, the defender fired the ball home but was in an offside position.

Bournemouth received their first card in the 62nd minute when Kerkez dragged down Sterling 30 yards out from goal. Mudryk took the free-kick and swung it into the box, but it came to nothing. That would prove to be the Ukrainian’s last action as he was replaced by Cole Palmer. Bournemouth also made a change as Outtara made way for Kluivert.

The Cherries had a free-kick on the edge of the Chelsea box with 20 minutes to go when Gusto made a late challenge, but Cook’s cross came to nothing. The hosts recycled play and the ball flashed across the box to Marcus Tavernier who couldn’t control the ball.

Andoni Iraola then made a double change as Tavernier and Kerkez were replaced by Senesi and a debuting Luis Sinisterra.

Disasi was then booked for a late challenge two yards outside the box on Justin Kluivert. Philip hit it off Gallagher and behind for a corner.

Bournemouth were dominant in the late stages as Solanke had a great chance saved by the outstretched leg of Sanchez. The striker had another chance as the ball was crossed to him, but his header.

Pochettino made a double change of his own hen Colwill and Fernandez made way for Maatsen and Chilwell before the Chelsea manager received a yellow card of his own.

It was end to end in the final five minutes as Chelsea had a strong penalty appeal denied by David Coote as a ball hit a hand in the Bournemouth box. The Cherries countered and the ball fell to Solanke, but the former blues striker failed to control the ball and it rolled out for a goal kick.

Iraola made Bournemouth's final change with two minutes to play, with Brooks replacing Christie.

The second half proved to be a lot more interesting than the first with end-to-end action, but neither team could convert their chances as the game finished goalless. Levi Colwill thought he had scored early in the second half but was in an offside position. Chelsea had the most of the possession, but weren't direct and struggled to create big chances. Bournemouth looked the better side in the second period but lacked the final touch that would've seen them leave with three points, however Andoni Iraola will be happy that his side kept their first clean sheet of the season.

The result leaves Bournemouth in 15th after three games, two points clear of the relegation zone. They play Brighton away at the Amex Stadium next weekend before a home fixture against Stoke in the Carabao Cup.
