Lenette Pellow

Hi,

I’m Lenette, final year Ecology and Wildlife Conservation student rep, running for Vice-President of Education office.

Throughout my study issues have existed issues with the given timetables PAL/Department seminars on days off, or single-hour lecture days. Traveling for one hour seems pointless but all sessions are important.

*I’d like to re-evaluate the timetable scheme to give minimums of 2-hour sessions aiming to improve attendance and learning across the board.

Word count. Two words us students hate when it comes to assignments. In how little do we have to word our knowledge?

*I would like to see larger but more adaptive word counts along with wider minimum limits, ie upto 3000 words, minimum of 1500.

Alongside this in-text citations for master's students' needs reviewing.

*Changes to number format instead of current referencing could make all the difference.

*3-5 words for each reference is too much in only 300-word short answer questions – every word really does count!

Exams and assignments are the main ways of grading students, but these can be outweighed, and some think outdated. Maybe you're better at exams or prefer assignments but how would mini-tests and short-answer assignments throughout the semester suit you?

*I know I’d prefer that to end of semester test stress, we could make this a chance for the better with at least a 50/50 split on all tests and assignments.

As students we pay a lot for our education, covid has shown us how beneficial recorded/live streamed lectures are.

*For revision, students with mental health or disability, illness or injury

There are many ways zoom streams or Panopto recordings could improve our experience.

*We are the ones paying for our education, why should we not have teaching methods that support us in difficult and unexpected circumstances.
