Freshers Fair

Following careful consideration, this weekend’s Fresher’s Fair event has been postponed.

With the latest Government guidance, and the announcement of further restrictions this week, as well as changing Covid-19 infection rates, we felt that this is the best decision in order to continue to protect BU students, staff, and the local community. The event was well planned and was set to take place in a Covid-secure way, with scrutiny and approval from both BCP Council and Public Health England. Our decision today has been taken with the best interests of students in mind.

We are grateful to all those who were involved in the planning of this event. The event will take place at a future date – to be announced – in a similar format. We are actively planning other arrivals activities – in-person and virtual – so that you are able to make new friends and meet fellow students. We are as committed as ever to helping you start your journey at BU, to feel supported, and form new friendships, with a range of information available on our website.

We are revealing our brand lists and freebies over on the Facebook event. The first 2000 students will receive a goody bag containing lots of freebies. Stalls will also be giving out freebies, deals and tasters.

Saturday is SUBU focussed. This is the best time to come and meet all of the clubs & socs as well as finding out about other opportunities.

No unfortunately the event is restricted to BU students only due to Covid 19 restrictions.

You can sign up at or you can sign up at the fair once you have found out more about particular opportunities.

What is Freshers Fair?

The SUBU Freshers' Fair is a huge exhibition that is free to attend for 18,000 BU students. Included in the fair are lots of local and national businesses together with a collection of live entertainment, sports demonstrations, music, food and drink!

There are 5,000 new first year students to the area each year.

We have welcomed numerous national and local brands to this event, over many years, who recognise this as a key time to connect with our students starting their key life moment of starting University.   Many of whom are often moving to a new area and out into their own home for the first time.

We've tried to capture the fantastic atmosphere and experience in the highlights video below.

Green Impact and Sustainability

This year's Freshers' Fair is on track to be the greenest yet. We have made commitments to increase recycling, composting, ban plastic bags and offset our CO2 emissions by planting tree saplings.

Commercial Stalls: Please support our green aims

Our greatest partners in this environmental effort are our commercial stall holders, so we are looking for your support this year to host a green and sustainable promotional stand!

You can achieve  this in the following ways:

  • No use of plastic bags, balloons and/or stickers on your stand.
  • Electronic devices used to collect data instead of paper.
  • Hand out flyers only to those students who express genuine interest e.g. Not just handing something to everyone passing by.
  • All items/flyers being handed out are easily recycled and composted - No single use plastic items.
  • Volume of waste is kept to a minimum, and any waste to be 100% recyclable or biodegradable.

Thank you in anticipation for your support.   If you would like to discuss this with us then please contact  Andy Elsey, SUBU Sales Executive. .

I'm game! How do I book?

If you have attended our fair in the past, you will know that in order to guarantee a prime location it is advisable to make a booking as early as possible.
