Who are we and what do we do?

The award-winning Performing Arts Society (PARTS for short!) has been part of the Student Union at Bournemouth University for over 18 years.
The society provides the chance for students from all courses, at both Bournemouth University & Arts University Bournemouth, to come together and share their talents in a variety of areas (including musical theatre, drama, dance, singing, costume, backstage management, tech, hair and make-up, comedy and improv). PARTS has been one of the Student Union's 5* societies for the past four years and has won SUBU’s Event of the Year award for Grease (2014), American Idiot (2017) and most recently Half a Sixpence (2019). We have also been the winners of the Community Impact Award (2019) and were runners up in the National Society Awards for Best Student-Led event in 2016.

This year, PARTS put on a 6-show production of Half a Sixpence at the Shelley Theatre. The show was a huge success and our cast and backstage team had an amazing time rehearsing and preparing for the show. We also worked alongside students and members with the production of the play ‘A Murder At’, which was the winner of Best Project at the Bournemouth University Project Management Institute Exhibition Day.

Each year the society stages a full-scale musical production in the Spring term and we also host three showcases each academic year, allowing all our members of the society to show off their hidden talents. We also love providing workshops for members to increase their skill set and help them gain confidence in a variety of area. And PARTS isn’t just for performers, we have opportunities for students interested in tech, hair, makeup, costuming and more!
