29 Jul 2026

Closing date for applications is 15 Jul.

We would love to invite BU students who are looking for experience in public ecology to represent the University at Upton Country Park in our upcoming Wildlife Discovery Day Bioblitz on Wednesday 29th July 2026

Every summer Upton Country Park runs a community biobltz day we call our Wildilfe Discovery Day. the aim of the day is to get our visitors engaging with our wildlife as well as providing an opportunity for other nature and wildlife organisations to promote the work that they do.

We would love to invite BU students who are looking for experience in public ecology to represent the University at this event. We’d like you to inform and engage the public in the conservation and ecology opportunities available at BU at a stand in our Walled Garden, alongside other organisations such as RSPB, Birds of Poole Harbour, Dorset Heaths Partnership and more.
We are also looking for volunteers to help run wildlife surveying activities with the public, such as pond dipping, butterfly or bee transects, species ID, woodland bug hunts etc.

Benefits to self

Gain experience and confidence in working with and engaging the public in practical ecology surveys, providing information and answering questions. Meet professionals from other wildlife and nature organisations working in the field. Volunteering hours gained. Outside of term time.

Benefits to others

Help the community in engaging with the biodiversity of Upton Country Park, increasing awareness of conservation efforts needed and in turn helping the Country Park in its efforts to get the public to appreciate and look after the place. Spark interest in young minds who may end up on your course!
