Ygam Volunteer Student Ambassador

Are you interested in how the digital world including gaming and gambling is shaping young peoples lives? Ygam is the UK’s leading charity dedicated to empowering children and young people to lead safer digital lives, with a particular focus on preventing gaming and gambling harms. We are looking for UK university students to join our Volunteer Student Ambassadors team and help Ygam achieve its social purpose by playing an important role in our University and Student Engagement Programme’s mission to raise awareness of gaming and gambling harms. By actively participating in this initiative, Volunteer Student Ambassadors contribute to creating a safer and more supportive environment for their peers to thrive academically and personally. We are seeking individuals who are outgoing, with a confident personality. You will enjoy engaging with other students and be able to advise us on the experiences of students with regards to gaming and gambling.

Role Description:

• Attend training sessions provided/arranged by Ygam to gain knowledge about gaming and gambling harms, and the available support services

• Provide insight and understanding from a student perspective to help inform Ygam’s work and ensure it remains relevant and impactful.

• Advise Ygam on key areas where the student voice is being lost and provide insight and understanding from a student perspective to help inform Ygam’s work and ensure it remains relevant and impactful.

• Support with content development e.g., training content reviews/social media/writing blogs.

• Organise and attend university campus events and/or training delivery sessions where possible to support the USE team’s university engagement and campaigns

• Engage with fellow students to raise awareness about the risks associated with gaming and gambling.

• Build relationships with key university contacts to raise awareness of gaming and gambling harms and to support future partnerships with the USE programme.

• Attend training sessions provided/arranged by Ygam to gain knowledge about gaming and gambling harms, and the available support services.

• To work with other VSA’s and the delivery team/external affairs team to fulfil the objectives of the group.

• To attend and participate fully in group meetings.

*Please note that this role is a mixture of remote volunteering through attendance at a weekly online meeting via Microsoft Teams, and raising awareness on your campus.

Time Commitments:

We invite you to join our team as part of your volunteering. Tenure will end 31st July 2027.

We ask that VSA’s aim to attend a weekly volunteer meeting currently set for Tuesdays 4:00-5:00pm to check-in and set out/progress with individual and group actions.

Each VSA will have a monthly check-in with Participant Engagement & Insight Manager, to check-in on their volunteering experience.

Remote role with weekly team meetings via Teams / campus awareness raising

Training available

A full induction and training will be offered to successful applicants including E-learning modules. Ongoing learning & development will be offered in key areas, and regular monthly check-ins will be in place with a key Ygam contact.
