To coincide with World Book Day, join us to talk about books and feminism over a glass of bubbly. You’ll also have to opportunity to make your own zine reflecting on being a woman.

Zines are explained by our zine workshop host, Aishwarya, as below

Zines or ‘small sized magazines’ is a Do-it-yourself form of art. This art involves eight specific folding to the paper which changes its shape to a small booklet. This method will be shown & explained by me during the event. It’s both fun and evokes mindfulness, between the relationship of the hands with the paper. A magazine might be opened quickly, to flick through its pages. What makes a zine stand out is that it’s your very own creation, after making it, you will feel a sense of joy and would want to gently turn its pages. Each page could contain a different story or be about the same story. This story can be in the form of cut outs from the magazines that are among the materials we will provide you, any word that jumps at you and you want it to be part of your zine, the marker pens are to draw anything that is symbolic to you. It can be something mundane, it can be special, it can be a quote or an affirmation, it can be of any shape. When you think about your identity, and where you are from, and your relationship with your gender or the way you live your life, I am sure there are plenty stories brewing inside your heads. Zines are a way of storytelling without directly striking a conversation about it. For me, a zine is a way of depicting how I am feeling, and more than that, a trademark of some very special memories that I want to be represented in a different way.
