Andoni Iraola’s side were knocked out of the Carabao Cup after losing to Brentford 2-0 at the Vitality Stadium.

Goals from Fabio Carvalho and Igor Thiago were the difference between the two sides as the Cherries were knocked out at round two, for a second consecutive year.

Iraola made eight changes to the side that beat Wolves 1-0 three days prior. Changes included full debuts for Ben Gannon-Doak and Amine Adli at the Vitality Stadium.

The home side made the brighter start, with Junior Kroupi going close within two minutes.

The Frenchman latched onto a loose pass. Kroupi then drove into the box and unleased a low effort, which was saved well for a corner.

The next chance came for Julio Soler, whose shot from distance was deflected onto the post by a Ryan Christie touch.

It would not be until the 34th minute when the game had its first goal. The visitors taking the lead.

A long ball into the Cherries box was poorly dealt with by Bafode Diakite and Soler, allowing Kristoffer Ajer to claim the header.

With Ajer’s header going out of play, James Hill tried to usher it out until Carvalho snuck in behind to get a goal-scoring touch.

The Cherries had little to offer after that, with the referee blowing for half-time.

Antoine Semenyo and Marcos Senesi were half-time substitutes, as the Cherries looked for an equaliser.

Hill had the game's next big chance. A ball into the box from Christie found Hill. His headed effort just flew over the bar.

Both Adli and Hill had great opportunities to grab an equaliser for the Cherries, however, it would be the visitors who scored the next goal.

Alex Scott was caught on the ball, which allowed Frank Onyeka to lay the ball onto Carvalho. The goal scorer then played in Igor Thiago who finished with ease past Ðorðe Petrović to make it 2-0.

With very little chances created by the Cherries in reply, the game ended 2-0 with the Cherries knocked out of the Carabao Cup.

Iraola’s side travel to North London to face Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday where they look to make it back-to-back wins in the league.
