AFC Bournemouth took on Brighton and Hove Albion in a game dubbed the ‘battle of the beaches’ this afternoon in the Premier League.
Just seconds after the game began, Jack Hinshelwood was forced off through an ankle injury and was replaced by Swedish international Yasin Ayari.
In the 18th minute, Alex Scott fired the Cherries ahead with a brilliant shot from outside the box into the bottom corner.
Another Injury for the visitors came in the 24th minute, as Maxim De Cuyper was replaced by Ferdi Kadioglu, who had been out for the majority of the 2024/25 season due to a toe injury.
The first real chance for Brighton came on the stroke of the 40th minute when Petrovic was forced into a save from close range by Yankuba Minteh.
After a dominant display from the home side, referee Peter Bankes blew for Half-time, in which the Cherries led the Seagulls 1-0.
Just three minutes into the second half, a floating cross from Minteh found Kaoru Mitoma on the back post, who headed the ball home to make the score 1-1.
An end-to-end beginning to the second half as both sides pushed for the goal to take the lead.
Approaching the hour mark, Marcus Tavernier picked up a loose ball and made a drive towards the penalty box.
With the crowd jeering him to try and lob Bart Verbruggen, Tavernier found a wide open Evanilson in the box.
Jan Paul Van Hecke was drawn in and fouled the Brazilian, giving a penalty to the Cherries. A penalty which was slotted away by Antoine Semenyo which regained the lead for Andoni Iraola's side.
In the 67th, three substitutions came for Brighton as James Milner, Georginio Rutter and Danny Welbeck were replaced by Carlos Baleba, Brajan Gruda and Stefanos Tzimas. AFC Bournemouth also made two substitutions as David Brooks; Alex Scott were replaced by Amine Adli and Justin Kluivert.
Heading into the final stages, both sides looked as if they could have grabbed another goal, with chances coming from both ends of the pitch.
The Cherries made two more changes in the closing stages; Marcus Tavernier and James Hill were replaced by Alex Jiminez and Lewis Cook.
The final change of the day followed in stoppage time as Evanilson was replaced by Julio Soler.
After 95 minutes of football, Bankes blew for full-time, in which the Cherries came away with the three points after an excellent performance, beating visitors Brighton and Hove Albion 2-1.
The Cherries face Newcastle at home next Sunday and Brighton will entertain Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday, the 20th of September.
