Andoni Iraola kept his unbeaten record against Newcastle United in a game which saw Bournemouth kept at bay.

The Cherries boss made two changes from the side that beat Brighton last week, Alex Jimenez and Bafode Diakite came in to replace James Hill and Veljko Milosavljevic.

Both teams made a fast start as the excited atmosphere grew inside Vitality Stadium.

Tyler Adams had the best chance of the early exchanges after David Brooks made a fine run past the Newcastle midfield and set a backheel to Adams who drilled his shot into Pope’s feet.

That chance seemed to spur the visitors on however as they played past the Bournemouth press and built a strong chance, forcing a save from Petrovic.

David Brooks thought he’d put the Cherries ahead in the 15th minute of the game however the linesman's flag was quickly raised to call him offside.

Newcastle made use of their aerial threat from set pieces, forcing Marcos Senesi into an acrobatic clearance to stop the header of Dan Burn.

The visitors kept the pressure on Bournemouth for the remainder of the half, keeping the Cherries out of their box.

Jimenez, who was making his full Bournemouth debut, picked up the first booking of the match for pulling Lewis Hall back and to the ground to stop the counter attack.

Iraola made one substitution at the break as James Hill came into the game to replace Alex Jimenez.

Newcastle thought they should have been awarded a penalty early into the second period as Nick Woltemade was seemingly pulled to the ground by Diakite however referee Rob Jones waved it away.

The high tempo continued throughout the second half however both teams were finding it difficult to create a clear cut chance.

Justin Kluivert went close in stoppage time with his curling free kick, however Nick Pope was able to push it out for a corner.

With neither team able to find a late winner the points were shared between the teams.

The next game for the Cherries is a trip to Elland Road where they take on Leeds next Saturday.
