Team GB have made their best ever start to an Olympic Games with 10 medals in the opening four days with Tom Dean claiming gold in the 200m freestyle.

There was more good news for Team GB as earlier in the day Georgia Taylor-Brown claimed a silver medal in the women’s triathlon event.

The Brit had suffered a puncture during the bike stage of the event and dropped 22 seconds behind the leading pack by the time she had reached the transition stage into the running stage of the event.

But not to be put off by her misfortune, Taylor-Brown pushed through the wind and the rain to claw back her competitors and finish in second place behind Flora Duffy of Bermuda.

The 27-year-old had been on crutches just 12 weeks ago with a leg injury that almost put her out of the Games and had to prove her fitness a week before flying out to Japan.

Having not raced since September the 2020 World Champion was delighted with her result where she had to dig deep to overcome her troubles on the bike.

It became Team GB’s second medal in the triathlon after Alex Lee won silver in the men’s event yesterday.

There are still medals up for grabs in the team dressage and women’s gymnastics team event later today as Team GB try to add to their best ever start to an Olympic Games.
