This Sunday offers a huge top of the table clash in the Women’s Dorset League, as well as two interesting matchups of teams in similar positions.

First place Weymouth FC Women will host second place Merley Cobham Sports Ladies with oth teams currently on 24 points. As only the winner of the league can gain promotion to the South West Regional League it could prove a crucial result in the race for promotion.

Weymouth narrowly missed out on promotion in the previous campaign and the club will know all too well the importance of a game of this magnitude.

Both teams have met once before in April 2021, where Weymouth trounced Merley 10-2, and the visiting side will be keen to get their revenge at the Bob Lucas Stadium and claim top spot for themselves.

Third place Poole Town Ladies Reserve travel away to fifth placed Dorchester Town Ladies who have two games in hand on The Dolphins, and a win could see Dorchester leapfrog Redlands Rebels’ in fourth position. The two teams last met on the January 30, with Poole Town claiming a 2-0 win at home. Poole Town Reserves have also played against Shaftesbury in the meantime, where they played out a 3-3 draw.

Finally, Gillingham Town Ladies will play Shaftesbury Town Ladies. Gillingham currently sit at the foot of the table in eighth, and are chasing their first win of the season. Shaftesbury are currently in 6th, and are 9 points behind Dorchester Town. Gillingham’s last game was a 16-0 demolition at the hands of table toppers Weymouth.

All games will be played on the February 13 with a 2pm kick-off.
