It was a comfortable Saturday afternoon at the County Ground as Hamworthy United sailed to a 3-0 victory to ninth placed Moneyfields. Goals from Billy Walker, Jack Lovell and Steve Devlin gave the home side the crucial three points as they continue their title charge.

This game also marked two milestones for Hamworthy with captain Billy Walker making his 150th Wessex League appearance and Max Buckler starting his 50th game for the side.

Hamworthy settled into the game faster than their opponents and made the most of that advantage by scoring the opening goal after 26 minutes. A good corner from Steve Devlin made it an easy finish for Walker to mark his special occasion.

With just a few minutes until the half time whistle Hamworthy made it a two-goal lead. A well worked cross from Eddie Hodge excellently found the head of Jack Lovell at the far post and gave the Hammers are comfortable half time lead.

Halfway through the second half Cam Munn was brought down in the box and the referee rightly gave a penalty to the home side. Steve Devlin stepped up and smartly finished from the spot as he sent the keeper the wrong way.

Another top result for the Hammers who now sit five points clear at the top of the table with Horndean remaining in second with a game in hand. Their next contest is away to Cowes Sports Saturday 26th.
