Gary O’Neil has had his say following Bournemouth being denied two penalty appeals in their 1-0 loss to Southampton last night.

The defeat was O’Neil’s first as interim head coach, end the Cherries’ six game unbeaten run.

In the match, Bournemouth had a big penalty appeal when a cross from Stanislas seemed to hit Salisu’s hand, but the shouts were denied by referee John Brooks and confirmed by VAR official Peter Bankes.

In his post-match press conference, O’Neil said: “The ball hits Lloyd Kelly at Nottingham Forest from a similar distance and it’s a penalty, the ball hits Jefferson Lerma at Newcastle it’s a penalty, tonight the ball hits their boy Salisu and it’s not a penalty”

Bournemouth picked up three points against Nottingham Forest but went 2-0 down after a handball was given against Lloyd Kelly which was scored by Brennan Johnson and meant that the Cherries had to make a comeback to secure all three points.

Their game at St James’ Park ended 1-1 after Isak converted a penalty given for handball by Jefferson Lerma, a decision which ended up costing Bournemouth two points.

O’Neil continued: “Hopefully the officials can clear up what it is and what it isn’t because I don’t see too much difference”

The Cherries also had another penalty appeal when Ryan Fredericks was pulled down in the box by Salisu, but once again Brooks wasn’t interested in the shouts from the Bournemouth players and fans.

“I’m not here to moan about rub of the green and things like that” O’Neil said, “but if you want to discuss the individual decisions the pull on Ryan Fredericks is a foul and the ball hit their boy on the hand today”

The loss puts Bournemouth in 11th place in the Premier League, just two points ahead of last night’s winners and local rivals Southampton and four points clear of the relegation zone.

Next up the Cherries travel to London where they play West Ham on Monday night.
