Cherries boss Scott Parker said his Bournemouth side have to “take our medicine” after being dumped out of the FA Cup to National League side Boreham Wood at Vitality Stadium.

Mark Ricketts 38th minute winner sealed victory for the team placed fifth in the National League and Luke Garrard’s team will now travel to Goodison Park to play Everton in the fifth round.

Burnemouth did think they had levelled the game when Jaidon Anthony volleyed home from close range but Philip Billing was judge to be offisde in the lead up to the goal after heading onto the post after Christie's strike from distance was pushed onto the bar by the Boreham Wood keeper.

Billing also wasted a guilt edge opportunity after Ryan Christie played the Dane through on goal only for the attacking midfilder to lift his effort over the bar with aubible groans reminanting fromt he crowd.

The team now need to pick themsleves up to face Birmingham on Wednedsy night as the gruelling Championship continues and the focus switches back to promotion.

Speaking to the journalists after, Parker said: “Sometimes you need to take your medicine. “Tonight we have to take our medicine and I have to take mine and make sure we react and that is my job now.

“Between now and Wednesday night we have to react and move now for the rest of the season.

“Our aim is to get out of this division and that is our main focus now, the league."

Parker knows his side must get a positive result to maintain the push for promotion and to not allow the club’s season to spiral out of control - something the head coach made clear will not be allowed to happen.

He added: “It can't do.

“Listen now, Wednesday night is massive, it’s a massive game it’s an absolutely massive game with what has happened tonight and the result we have had.

“The fans probably league this stadium with a lot of questions, a lot of doubt a little bit.

“My players and this group need to respond and there is only one way to respond. We need to come here on Wednesday night and put a performance in and get a result and that is the most important thing.”

A dejected Parker acknowledged the magic of what a giant killing in the cup means and revealed “it is right up there” in one of his lowest moments in the former Englan international's football career.

“It is right up there,” explained the head coach.

“I am usually hurt and disappointed. I have been around football a long time, we all know the magic of the FA Cup and what that brings, but I don't want to be sitting here that's the cold hard facts.

“I don't want to be on the end of a giant killing as magic as it is.

“I want to be here tonight and put a performance in and win the game and we have not managed to do that.“.
