Bournemouth Women currently sit third in the Women’s national league south-west after a solid set of results against Exeter City and Portishead Town and will look to challenge league leaders Exeter City and Cardiff city, who sit above them.

Steve Cuss’ side consists of youthful attacking flair with players like Lucy Cooper and veteran experience in players such as Helen Bleazard that have helped them attain such a high position in the league table, with results against the likes of local rivals Southampton (4-0 to Bournemouth) and league table rivals Exeter City (2-1 to Bournemouth) showing the teams worth.

All hasn’t been perfect for the Cherries Women, as they have struggled to beat teams in the top half such as their 2-1 loss title rivals to Cardiff City, hindering their progression up the table.

This has raised questions as to whether investment is needed to be able to sustainably compete with Exeter and Cardiff for the title.

Joe Raine, who follows both the men’s and women’s team, said: “I think another holding midfielder and a winger would be vital if we are looking to challenge Cardiff in the second half of the season.”

Albeit fans have been proud and supportive of the girls’ efforts so far this season as we head into the Christmas break.

Joe also had praise for how the girls have dealt with injuries and their style of play, he said: “They’ve had a few injuries this season and have had to bring players in like Beth Everson, but they’ve been consistent and have been hitting the counter well.”

Bournemouth fan Sam Cuthbert who also follows both the men’s and women’s team and he said: “The girls have really come a long way since the start of the season. They have grown game by game and it’s really enjoyable to see.”

Cuss’ side will look to bring in new signings to mitigate the possibilities of more injuries and to improve the sides quality.

The girls will be facing Moneyfields away from home in their next league game on the 22nd of February at 7:45PM and will be looking to get all three points as they bid to progress further up the table.
