Tyler Adams made his Bournemouth debut as the Cherries cruised past Stoke and into the Carabao Cup fourth round on Wednesday night.

The £23 million man came on as a substitute in the final stages of the game, with it also being his first involvement in the squad after sustaining an injury in the summer.

A quick double after half time from Solanke and Rothwell ensured the victory at the Vitality Stadium, with the result being Iraola's first home win as Cherries boss.

The Spaniard made eight changes to the side that lost to Brighton on Sunday, with Illia Zabarnyi, Milos Kerkez and Lewis Cook being the only players to keep their place from the trip to the Amex Stadium. Tyler Adams was involved in the squad for the first time since signing in the summer, albeit on the bench.

The Potters made six changes to the side that were mauled by the tigers last weekend, with McNally, Laurant, Burger, Campbell and Haskabanovic and Bournemouth loanee Mark Travers making way for Bonham, However, Leris, Junho, Wesley and former Cherry Ben Pearson coming into Alex Neil’s side.

The start of the game provided no action, with both sides looking sloppy in possession. Bae Junho fouled David Brooks 35-yards from goal in the 10th minute. Rothwell stood over the free kick which was poor.

It took 13 minutes for the first shot of the game when Bournemouth worked the ball out to captain Adam Smith on the right-hand side, the full-back’s ambitious 25-yard attempt was blocked behind for a corner.

A second shot quickly followed as the ball was recycled to Milos Kerkez on the left following the corner, but the 19-year old struck his shot straight at Jack Bonham.

There was a 30-minute wait for the next chance when the ball was played in to Ouattara inside the box, the winger produced a lovely Cruyff turn and unleashed a shot that was well saved by Bonham.

Stoke then came forward with an attack of their own, countering down the right and playing the ball to Daniel Johnson. The midfielder shot from range, but it was well over.

The first half left a lot to be desired for both sets of fans, with both teams being poor in possession and next to no chances. Neither team looked like scoring at the break, and both needed changes if they wanted to reach the fourth round of the Carabao Cup.

Iraola was the first to make a substitution, with Solanke and Christie coming on for Semenyo and Traore at half-time.

The changes didn’t take long to take effect as Solanke opened the scoring five minutes into the second half. Adam Smith played the ball into the Englishman, he swivelled and powered the ball past Bonham to give the Cherries the lead.

Three minutes later and Bournemouth had another when Kerkez won a foul of the left-side of the box. Rothwell swung the ball in and it travelled past everyone and into the back of the net. It was a poor goal to concede from a Stoke point-of-view but Rothwell won’t care as he scored his first ever Cherries goal.

Bournemouth made their next change with half an hour to go. David Brooks made way for Marcus Tavernier.

In the 65th minute Bournemouth had a free kick in an identical position to the second goal. Rothwell whipped the ball in again but it was caught comfortably by Bonham.

The first booking came in the 67th minute, and it was given to former cherry Ben Pearson for a tug of the shirt.

The 70th minute saw the highly anticipated debut of Tyler Adams. The American replaced Lewis Cook as the £23 million midfielder played his first game as a cherry in front of the Vitality Stadium crowd.

Alex Neil made a double change as Pearson and Junho made way for Laurent and Sead Haksabanovic.

In the 73rd minute Christie forced a good save out of Bonham as the ball fell to the Scot on the edge of the area. He volleyed and the ball looked to be dipping into the top corner but the Stoke goalkeeper tipped over for a corner.

The Potters ten made another double change when Nathan Lowe and Dwight Gayle replaced Wesley and Johnson.

Stoke made their final change with seven minutes to play as Sol Sidibe came o for Medhi Leris.

Bournemouth made their final change soon after when, 40 minutes after coming on, Solanke was subbed off for Kieffer Moore. The goal scorer went down injured minutes before the change.

The two goals right after half time was enough to see Iraola's side reach the fourth round of the Carabao Cup. Bournemouth were the better side, completely overpowering a weak Stoke side who got chants of "you're not fit to wear the kit" from their own fans in the 90th minute. The game won't be remembered as a classic by either sets of fans, with the goals being the only big chances in an otherwise dull game.

The draw for the next round of the Carabao Cup takes place straight after the game, with the fixtures taking place on the week of October 30th.
