About BU Motorsport
Whether you've loved Motorsport for years or have never heard of it but want to learn more, BU Motorsport aims provide a supporttive and egaging atmosphere for you regardless of expierience or skill level!
This society was started to widen the audience of motorsport through watching races, learning about different types of motorsport, learning about the engineering behind the vehicles, developing ones skills, but most importantly allowing people to connect with others with a similar interest in a fun way and without judgement!
What we do!
1) Races!!
We host watch parties for motorsport events including:
- Formula 1
- F1 Acedemy
- Formula E
- Formula 2
- NASCAR
- Moto GP
- World Endurance Championship
- Indycar
keep an eye out on the society socials for updates on upcoming events!
Before Races we will also be offering Introduction sessions a couple times throughout the year! These sessions aim to give you all the information you might need to start watching and enjoying areas of motorsport you might not be familiar with!
2) Socials and Meet ups
Group Gaming - Hop onto our discord server or join us on campus for some group gaming sessions! This could range from sim racing on F1 24 to Mariokart or Virtual Reality Games!
Karting - Want to try your hand at karting? come with us to our local karting track (south coast Karting)! And dont worry if you have never been karting before, a lot of us havent either! :)
Club/Pub Nights - These nights give us a chance to hangout, have fun, and get to know each other away from motorsport for a little bit, you'll find us at dylans, spoons, buffalo, and The Old Fire Station! Keep an eye on our socials for upcoming events and theme nights!
External Visits - We try and plan a couple of external visits to places of interest throughout the year. This might include the National Motorsport Museum, Goodwood festival of speed, S.M Motorcycle Meuseum, as well as others!
3) Learning workshops/skills sessions
Throughout the year you will have the opportunity to attend out workshops and skills sessions to develop your knowledge and skills regarding motorsport and engineering. Topics range but they can include Aerodynamics, car maintenece, electronics, CAD skills, Photoshop, chassis construction, as well as many more! These are beginner friendly so ask as many questions as you like, and if there is something specific you would like to learn about then let us know!
4) Equality, Inclusivity, and Diversity

BU Formula Student
In the Motorsport society you will have the opportunity to be part of the BU Formula Student team! In this team we will be designing and create a formula car according to the IMechE specifications to compete in the concept class (in preparation to move to making the physical car the following years). You will be able to join any of the Engineering departments:
- Chassis
- Aerodynamics
- Powertrain
Each department has a Lead Enginner who coordinates the team and acts as a communication hub for the other departments. If these roles are not all filled we will be looking for enthusiastic and commited people to take on these roles of leadsership so come and show us what you're made of!
However, our Formula Student Team does not only consist of Engineers. Our Business team are incredibly important as well! If you are interested in this side of the team then you will be able to enter a range of other departments:
- Socials
- Resource Management
- Marketing
- Procurement
- Sustainability
