Our Competitive team
The BU Dance Society (BUDS) practice in seven styles of dance: Ballet, Contemporary, Heels (Wildcard), Novice and advaned Jazz, Street, and Tap.
Our weekly classes are taught by current students in preparation for national inter-university competitions throughout the year, and our end of year showcase. Over the last 5 years the team has excelled, growing stronger in numbers and ability. Each year our family is growing bigger and closer than ever. We have had an exceptional year, taking home an incredible 24 trophies!! We have had the most successful competition season yet, including hosting our own competition, with sold out tickets.
Consistently over the last few years we have been awarded SUBU 5 star society, going above and beyond to do more as a group and for the community. We are a huge society that utilise are abilities to give back to the environment and community we live in, with beach cleans, litter pickings, and much more plannned. We were so grateful to have received SUBU Society of the Year!! It is such an amazing achievement to reflect the level of effort and time poured into our society to ensure every single one of our members makes the most of their university experience. BU Dance Society host one of the biggest inter-society fundraising events at BU - 'BU Come Dancing'. An opportunity to collaborte with other societies and clubs at the university to create entertaining and unique performance to raise money to a given charity close to our hearts. Increasing and growing exponentially, the last few years have been complete sell outs! We were able to raise an incredible £2964.16 for the Space Youth Project. We came 2nd for the Collaboration of the Year award at the National Student Fundraising Awards put forward and nominated by SUBU.
The society is a great place to practice your dancing to a competitive level, and to make great friends within the team. Membership is £170 which includes all comps, shows, travel, costumes, kit, classes and socials for the year. This year we hope to continue our success with fresh new faces! We look forward to seeing you at auditions.
Our Social Team
We are offering this social membership to the people who don't want to compete, but still want to be a part of the BUDS family. We will be running weekly social classes of which we will try and branch out with different styles but the classes will mainly be commerical. We have plenty of opportunities to mix and engage with all members on the team. Our amazing social team choreographer Maisie has her own dance business called MRC DANCE. We are honoured to have Maisie back for a third year, she has done an amazing job at empowering, encouraging, and supporting our social team. Click the link to view her website Welcome - MRC DANCE
The second term will consist of classes teaching routines to show at our annual end of year showcase so you will be able to perform to friends, family or even just admiring fans.
Membership is £60 per term which covers any open classes you want to attend in that term, your BUDS kit, showcases and more!

Why become a BUD?
- We are a family - BUDS has a great team spirit both on and off the stage. We have each others backs through the best of times and the worst. We motivate each other to continuously improve, so when competition time comes, we can all be our very best.
- 'Once in a lifetime' experiences - Your university experience is more than just a degree! Joining a team like BUDS is a pathway to many opportunities from performing on large stages, to having the opportunity to choreograph and manage your own dance routines for the rest of the society to learn. It has proved to be an incredible way to network and meet all kinds of people in different lines of work. You'll gain confidence, friendships, and sweaty leotards!
- You'll get the chance to serve your community - Each year BUDS are dedicating more time to reaching out to our community; supporting local charities and performing at local campaign events. BUDS take pride in giving back to the community and reaching outside the walls of Bournemouth University.
