Asking the question is as easy as going "I’m here for a beer if you need me.".

Your VP Welfare & Equal Opportunities presents ‘Here For a Beer’ – a campaign to encourage guys to speak up and be more open about how they are feeling.

Every two hours a man in the UK takes his own life. Expert suggest that men are more reluctant to talk about their emotions, because they fear appearing weak or vulnerable, or feel as though they have failed to deliver on the stereotypical ‘male provider’ role.

Guess what? No one cares about stereotypes. We just want you to stay alive.

Look after yourself and your friends, and don’t be afraid to ask if your friend is okay. After all, behind the smile, something else might be going on.

There are beer mats left all across both campuses, so, if you find one and want to get involved – take a photo, post it on social media and tag SUBU Bournemouth for a chance to be entered into a little competition! Prizes include drinks vouchers and a ticket to Summer Ball (winners will be announced on 1st May).

P.S. This campaign is NOT about drinking and is not intending to exclude anyone. The key message to take away from this is to be able to initiate a conversation with a friend to find out how they are genuinely feeling. Please message if you have any further questions or want to get involved!
