National Student Volunteering Week

Monday 9th - Sunday 15th February 2026

Student Volunteering Week is a national week, led by the Student Volunteering Network, that takes place across the UK. Universities and schools across the country step up to take part in the week, organising opportunities or events to encourage their students to volunteer and help their local communities. A significant proportion of Student engagement here at SUBU is through voluntary roles!

From the students actively volunteering in the local community and internationally, Student Reps, Part Time Officers, Club, Society and Nerve Committee members - we have over 1,700 students actively engaged in SUBU through volunteering.

This year, each day during National Student Volunteering Week has a dedicated theme and there is a range of events in line with these themes for students to get involved in! Keep an eye on this page, and revisit next year for National Student Volunteering Week 2027.  In the meantime you can check out the SUBU Volunteering Hub for more opportunities hosted by our incredible charity partners.

Why does SUBU get involved in National Student Volunteering Week?

Most of the incredible work we do wouldn't be possible without the wide range of volunteers that give their time to SUBU programmes. What's in it for me?

A student recently told us that “I always find volunteering gives you something back. Whether it’s a feeling of doing something good or an opportunity to make new friends, it's always worthwhile.” Beyond this you gain useful skills, it looks good on your CV, which may help you to find placements and/or post-graduate jobs. Some of our students go on to work for the charities that they have volunteered for.
