How To Have A Sustainable Celebration

It's great to have parties and socials and make new friends when you are at university.  Here are a few top tips on how you can hold your parties more sustainably.

  • Send e-invites to save paper.  Make sure the invites are sent privately and securely and only to people you know that you specifically want to attend.
  • Avoid using single use plastic and polystyrene cups and plates and straws.  Try to use reusable glass and china crockery, and paper or edible straws.
  • Avoid buying plastic and glitter decorations that you would use once and throw away.  Instead try to buy sustainably resourced, bio-degradeable decorations - why not have a pre-party crafting session and get your mates around to help make some decorations.  The are some great websites and online tutorials for this. Try this one at Hobbycraft.
  • Try to include Fairtrade or other ethical trade brands in your food and drink purchases.  You can find out more about ethical trade brands here.
