Say My Name Campaign

The Say My Name Safety Pledge was created by SUBU VP Education Chiko Bwalya to give students a chance to be seen and recognised in all University settings, focusing on the use of chosen names and pronouns.

Allyship Hub

The Allyship Hub has been created by SUBU VP Welfare & Community Toluwa Atilade as a space for students to develop their knowledge on the issues minority groups have faced over the years and educate themselves on how to become a better Ally.

Environmenstral Collective

A campaign created by your VP Welfare & Community, Toluwa, to promote sustainable sanitary products and to lobby our commercial services to stock student cost-friendly products. Including an online space via Facebook for students to learn about period, provide feedback on reusable period products and submit ideas

#NeverOK

SUBU believes that sexual misconduct, harassment and violence are #NeverOK. Find out more about what sexual harassment and violence is, what initiatives SUBU is taking and what support is on offer.

 

National Awareness Campaigns

 

Black History Month

Black History Month is a national campaign that takes place in October to shine a spotlight on Black history in the UK and beyond. At SUBU, we arrange a series of events designed to inspire and support the Black student community and educate others.

Asian & Arab Heritage Month

Asian and Arab Heritage Month is celebrated throughout the month of April with events focusing on broadening the conversation about inclusion and exclusion, with the hopes of engaging in dialogue about the nuances of language, culture, and geography.

Women's History Month

March is Women's History Month which celebrates women's contributions to society both now and in the past while raising awareness of the prejudices still faced by women.

LGBTQ+ History Month

LGBTQ+ History Month occurs in the UK in February and gives the opportunity to celebrate and remember the LGBTQ+ history that is often forgotten about in mainstream history.

Trans Awareness Week

Transgender Awareness Week (13th-19th November) is a time for transgender people and their allies to take action and bring attention to the community by educating the public and advancing advocacy around the issues of prejudice, discrimination, and violence that transgender people face.

Disability History Month

Now in its twelfth year, Disability History Month is celebrated in November and December (18th November - 18th December for 2021). It aims to celebrate Disabled people past and present, challenging ableism and achieve equality.

A campaign that was designed to give students lifetime-lasting confidence with events including a CV workshop, a talk on networking & how to speak to businesses and a session on housing, mortgages and renting.
